>So I have heard of “Trunk or Treat” for a few years now, on the internet. I have not, however, heard of Trunk or Treat anyplace near to me. I think this is a REALLY great idea for small towns (like mine) AND for small children – everything is in one place and safe.
I’m thinking I want to try to have Trunk or Treat near where I live. But I have many, many questions, and I have a feeling that I am going to have many, many more questions still to come.
PLEASE please weigh in and let me know your thoughts, what you like/don’t like about these, suggestions. Soon. Please. Help.
It might mean you have to click “post a comment” and interact but I’m serious, I want help. I think this could be a great way to do something fun and different!!
1. Where is your Trunk or Treat held?
2. When is it held? Specifically, what calendar date (ON Halloween, before Halloween) AND, what time of day?
3. How many cars should participate?
4. How many people do you invite? Do you share fliers publicly?
5. Do you provide other activities? or Were there other activities?
6. Is there a fee associated?
7. Did you need a permit from the town?
8. Do you want to come help me with this?
You will get the prize of my undying gratitude for your assistance, should you take the plunge and click on the “post a comment” (or post on facebook, or tweet me!) to help with this. It is already September 5th so the clock is ticking. Is it too late for this year? *Pleasesaynopleasesayno*

>1. Where is your Trunk or Treat held? Brooksvale Park in Hamden in the parking lot2. When is it held? Specifically, what calendar date (ON Halloween, before Halloween) AND, what time of day? We hold 2 diff ones on 2 diff days, during the week before Halloween… one in the morning & one in the afternoon, so more people can participate3. How many cars should participate? the more the better :o)4. How many people do you invite? Do you share fliers publicly? We do it with our mommy group & don't publicise. if a friend of a member comes, that's fine. the whole point for us, is that it's a safe event & fun, of course5. Do you provide other activities? or Were there other activities? no6. Is there a fee associated? no7. Did you need a permit from the town? i think we're probably supposed to, but since it's during the week, no one else is using the space8. Do you want to come help me with this? sure! would love to come see you!! :o)

The city hold business sponsor trick and treats, for the kids too. I usually go to the community center and church, my sons is not big on the candy thing just the games and being with kids to play.

>Wow, I'd never heard of this before. Around here the schools just tend to do a carnival on the school grounds on Halloween for elementary aged children. Older ones still go Halloweening. I had over 200 kids come to my door last year. I ran out of candy by, no lie 7:30pm. Kids kept coming until after 9:00pm.Problem is I'd say over 90% of these kids lived no where even near me. Their parents drive them in by the car loads, drop them off at one end of the street and then go to the opposite end of the street to pick them up.Some of them, I actually recognized from a town away. Don't even live in this community at all.

>There is a non profit and some churches that do this every year here. The kids love it. They get all of the businesses and non profits and community groups to participate. The kids then go from table to table and some have cars that they actually use the trunks. Some bring cartoon characters or stuff but basically it is a long parade where you get prizes and candy every few feet. We have hundreds of participants on the candy distribution side and they limit it to 300 on the kid side. You need a ticket to get in but it is free. They do it a week or so before halloween in the early afternoon. Many businesses give out coupons and products like that too. HTHs. It is held behind a library here that winds into a big shaded parking lot, which is closed off. Now, can I ask a small favor of you:) Can you go to my blog and click the Sweatshirt Blanket icon the right. Please vote for the South shore longhorns. We are currently tied and our kids really need a bunch of votes so we can pull ahead. There is nothing to like and no info to give- just 1 click. If you could share that with others I'd realy appreciate it. Good luck with your halloween plans. It really is a great idea and it's wonderful that you are willing to do this for the kids in your area.

>Okay, so I have some input I can give you. Our church, Fair Oaks Church(aka Loud On Purpose) has done Trunk or Treat in the past — a huge event with 5000 people attending. We are currently taking a break from it this year, however if you want more detailed information than what I can give, you could contact the church — they used to sell a "trunk or treat in-a-box" kit, but I'm not sure if they still do or not. Their email is info@loudonpurpose.com The website is loudonpurpose.com.Here are some responses to your questions.1. We hold it on our church property.2. It is held on Halloween night, usually 5-8 or 6-8.3. I think we had around 100 cars participate, but it didn't start out that way. So, I think however many you can round up would be good.4. We used this as an outreach event for our church, so it was open to the public. We posted fliers anywhere we got permission to and tried to spread the word as much as possible. We even got some signs that we posted on streets in public easement. We've had up around 5000 people at the event.5. We had concessions, climbing walls, bounce houses and things like that. All outside vendors that we had come in. I know some churches do their own concessions, but we were spread thin enough with other volunteers that we just hired outside vendors to cover that. Our church youth group created a haunted house to go through also. We used to do fireworks also (hired people to come do these)6. We never charged a fee – it was an outreach event, so we didn't want people to think this was just another way for the church to ask for money. We accepted donations, but those primarily came from the people in the church, sometimes in the form of money and sometimes in the form of candy donations. Anyone who had a car would either bring their car filled with candy, or they would pay $50 and we would supply them with candy for the evening.7. We needed permits for certain things. I couldn't tell you for sure everything, but you could contact the church for that info if you wanted it. I know we needed a permit for all the vendors and for the haunted house we made, the fire inspector had to come and check it out before we could use it.Anyhow, hope that helps some. Let me know if you have any other questions I might be able to help you with.

>We always do it through our church each year. So we hold it in our church parking lots (LDS church) – usually on Halloween night (unless it's a Sunday then we do it the night before) we don't do it too late but it has to be dark. We have in the past teamed up with another ward (congregation group) that attends church in the same building so the average number of cars I would say is about 50. We usually make little fliers and pass them out at church a few weeks in advance. Sometimes we also do inside activities- some little carnival type things for kids or a parade for the little kids in costumes, cake walk, etc. No fees associated or permits required since we do it at the church. Good luck! I have heard that our community center does one too but it's a little different- here's a link where you can read all the info on that one – http://www.maplevalleycc.org/childrenfamily/specialevents.php#trick_or_trucks

>The only place I know of that does this around me is the YMCA. They do it one day during the week and it is for kids in their preschool and afterschool programs only I think. It might be for any members, I'm not positive.Sorry that isn't much help!
