Hillshire Farm has a brand new product coming and they sent some for us to try. The Grilled Essentials come in several flavor varieties including Italian Style, Grilled Chicken Breast (unseasoned), Lemon Pepper, Hardwood Smoked and Garlic & Herb. These aren’t going to be on store shelves until early September, so I was excited to try them so soon!
The Italian Style Chicken Breast is the first kind we tried- while we do not typically purchase convenience foods like this, these are GREAT to keep on hand to chop up into a salad, slice into strips for a pizza or quesadilla topping, to add some protein to a pasta dinner- and so many more recipes. The packages are vaccuum sealed into 3 oz serving sizes which is a really important thing especially for those of us being careful about what we eat- no guessing, no wondering- they have done that work for you. Each box of Grilling Essentials comes with 2 individually packaged pieces of chicken breast.
This product is really easy to use. Open the box, put the pouch onto a microwave safe plate, warm it up for 60 seconds, and your chicken is done. The flavors are good, not too strong, and I like being able to see the grill marks on the meat. Feels kind of reassuring as if I was eating leftovers from the grill the night before!
The first meal we tried the Grilled Essentials, I decided to make club sandwiches. Maybe not so fancy as others may have, but for us, on a weekend day, fancy enough. My husband had spent most of the morning splitting some firewood and was 1. starving and 2. starving. He was so excited to see I’d not only made him lunch but that I’d made him a club sandwich- definitely a treat. There’s also some ham, mustard and bacon on this sandwich, folks. He was a happy man. I tried some of this as well- we both commented on how good the seasoning amount was, and how the size of the meat was perfect for a sandwich. I decided I’d prefer to cut my chicken into a salad but hubby prefers sandwiches.
We tried the Lemon Pepper flavor next- this wasn’t my favorite but lemon never is. The seasoning and taste was fine I am just not a lemony person, I guess. I am anxious to try the Garlic & Herb and the Hardwood Smoked this week! I have a recipe for a Green Apple Salad with chicken I’m going to put that in…yum!
There will be a #GrilledEssentials Twitter Party on August 30th from 9-10PM EST. Come join in the fun!

Hardwood Smoked would be great with corn on the cob! Yum!

These look good – I was wondering about the lemon pepper one, sometimes a little lemon pepper goes a long way 🙂 That club sandwich sounds delish!

I liked your post. I don’t usually go for the prepared items either but think these would be good to have on hand for busy nights.
