This somehow got stuck in draft without my noticing. Even post-holiday, this can be a great thing to keep in the car or a suitcase for travel time!! With it being winter a lot of people decide to travel- by car, bus, train or plane- to ski, to warmer weather- to visit family, for fun if not for the holidays!! One way to help keep little ones occupied in the car that is also self-contained and easy to store in a small space is this awesome Wheels on the Bus Sing-Along Travel Kit from Scholastic.
THE WHEELS ON THE BUS SING-ALONG TRAVEL KIT has been designed to provide kids ages 3-9 with hours of immersive fun—whether on a plane, train or automobile. The only trip insurance families need, the innovative set contains two musical DVDs featuring 15 animated literary classics including Paul O. Zelinsky’s lively Wheels on the Bus with an unforgettable score by The Bacon Brothers and Cyndi Lauper’s ThereWas an Old WomanWho Swallowed a Fly, a CD with 13 sing-along songs including The Fox Went Out on a Chilly Night, He’s Got theWholeWorld in His Hands, and FrogWent A-Courtin’, a 34-page activity booklet loaded with games and activities to support early math and reading skills, crayons, and helpful travel tips for parents. Packaged in a colorful and portable travel case with a handle, it also turns into a fun-filled, go-anywhere mini-suitcase for kids! (AVAILABLE NOW; $24.95 SRP)
We do keep this in the car, but the CD in particular is a family favorite – there’s kind of a rock-n-roll twist to favorite preschool songs. For those parents who don’t really enjoy traditional children’s music, give this a try- its definitely updated in sound!! I’d actually been all set to burn the CD until I realized that playing it on my laptop meant it was in my itunes library (I’m so tech savvy…aren’t you jealous?) and I didn’t need to. We play it often and I got kind of tired of bringing it from the van to the house all the time. My kids love music and ask for it nonstop!! They love the Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. Apparently its the funniest song EVER!!

These days, so many people have DVD players in their vehicles or at least have portable DVD players that having some kids’ DVDs handy is a smart idea. I love this set because it tucks into a fairly small box that can fit in the pouch on the back of the driver’s seat, or better still, in the built in pocket in the driver, passenger or rear doors. That’s where we keep it, although when we first watched these DVDs we did view them in the house. I like knowing there’s something “new” for them to watch should we get stuck someplace- I know I can keep them entertained for a long time with the activity book, the DVDs and music CD. The small size of the “suitcase” as the folks at Scholastic call it is also a nice size to tuck into a carry-on bag, a backpack or a suitcase- lots of entertainment contained in a small package- and we all know when travelling with children space is a premium!!
If you have kids or know someone with kids I definitely recommend this set. Its quite versatile, fun musical stories and great songs, and self-contained…plus it encourages a love of reading. You can’t miss!!

>oh wow, this would be awesome with all the traveling we end up doing. Usually we put the radio on Radio Disney because baby girl likes the music but alot of what is played isn't best for her age and I'm always wishing for CDs just for her.
