One of my favorite things to do is read. I read a lot with my children- to them, with them, with them reading to me. I’m not sure if you know by now but I’m a HUGE lover of all things Christmas and we’ve been adding to our Christmas book collection each year. We’ve got classics and funny books, activity books and more…and a lot in between.
Here are some of OUR favorites- but I want to know what yours are! I want to add to our collection!
How the Grinch Stole Christmas– Dr. Seuss is simply classic.
Llama Llama Holiday Drama (the llama llama books never get old. I love them all).
Christopher Pop-in-Kins is our elf friend who likes to hide in a new spot each night. Kind of like Elf on a Shelf, but we find Christopher to be much cuter (no offense to the Elf himself).
Christmas in the Barn is written by Margaret Wise Brown, of Goodnight Moon fame, and one of MY favorites. So simple and sweet. This is one of the more spiritual books.
Who is Coming to Our House is a really sweet board book that tells the story of Jesus coming.
Merry Christmas, Curious George– another “old school” story.
Olive, the Other Reindeer– this is a fun one too!
Santa’s Beard is Soft and Warm is from when my now 27 year old nephew was a baby. I remember when my mom brought it home for him. The suspenders don’t snap as well as they used to but it’s a sweet little touch and feel book just like Pat the Bunny and full of tons of Christmas fun (the tree doesn’t really “smell” anymore either but we don’t mind) The “newer” version is available used in a few places including here
The Joy of Giving is a Berenstain Bears book and a great one to reinforce that giving is greater than receiving.
Twas the Night Before Christmas is a book that we read every year on Christmas Eve- my grampa used to read it to my siblings and cousins, my dad read it to the older grandkids in my family, and now we read it to our children. My copy pictured above is from my college roommate Jill and is very special to me!
What are some of your holiday favorites?

We started a new tradition last year, where we take the kids to the bookstore and pick 1 new Christmas book. Last year we got this cute book called “Snow Angels”. It’s about 2 girls who after making snow angels see angels all around them, and then they go off and give service with the “snow angels” helping.
This year we got “The Magical Christmas Horse” by Mary Higgins Clark. A cute story about a boy wanting to give his little brother his favorite rolling horse, and the attempt to find where it is.
We also enjoy The Christmas Orange, and A Christmas Dress for Ellen.
