Usually when we do food gifts for friends and neighbors, we do a sweet popcorn mix. This year, we’re changing things up a bit and doing Sugar Cookie Puppy Chow aka Muddy Buddies. Still simple, still sweet, still fun to give, but a little different flavor and ingredients! Who doesn’t love muddy buddy recipes?
Sugar Cookie Puppy Chow
Sugar Cookie Puppy Chow/Muddy Buddies
Ingredients
6 C. Chex Mix Rice cereal
2 10 oz. packages of Wilton sugar cookie candy melts (located in the Wilton section at craft stores and major retailers, the seasonal candy melts like the Sugar Cookie flavor are often in the holiday baking area)
2 C. Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix
2 C. powdered sugar
Gallon size plastic bag
Directions –
#1. Pour the (2) packages of sugar cookie candy melts into a large microwave safe dish and heat in 30 second increments, stirring every 30 seconds until melted. Set the melted candies aside and allow it to cool a few minutes before pouring over the cereal.
#2. Pour the melted candy over the Chex mix and stir well completely coating all the cereal. Use a generously sized mixing bowl for this- you don’t want to break the cereal!
#3. Pour the 2 cups of Betty Crocker Sugar cookie mix and 2 cups of powdered sugar into the gallon size Ziploc bag (a paper bag will work too).
#4. Slowly pour the cereal into the bag, close and shake well to completely coat the chocolate covered cereal with powdered sugar.
#5. Sprinkle the red & green sprinkles liberally over the cereal. More is always good in this case!
Store in an airtight container up to 1 week – we like to keep ours in the fridge.
