Sometimes it seems our family is behind the times when it comes to our kids and gadgets. My children have never had an electronic device of their own, not a cell phone, a gaming device, or even an MP3 player. This year though, my daughter received a Nokia Lumia 635 for Christmas. We’d recently decided she was old enough and responsible enough to respect and take care of this kind of device. She’s active and on the go and having a phone means she can reach us when she needs to and us her.
She’s used our phones and our school has a great progressive education curriculum where every child in her class has a laptop but you can see her shock and confusion when she unwraps this Windows smartphone!
Here she realizes how the phone unlocks and is so excited about the color!
It was so much fun to surprise her with something so unexpected. She is having a great time learning all about the phone and what it can do, taking photos, and communicating with family.
I love that this Windows phone uses an outlook email and a Microsoft account that I can manage through the My Family settings. I can add restrictions, set curfews, time allowances, see what activity has taken place on the phone, set internet preferences and so much more! It’s a great first phone (okay, my husband might be a touch jealous it’s our daughter’s and not his).
I know she loves her new phone and we’ll love staying connected when she can’t be with us!

I need this for my son. He’s a pretty good kid, but he’s pretty bad about late night phone usage.

This is a great phone, especially for parents. All of those parental controls are great!

Loved the video. What a great present. Thought it was sweet that it took her a minute to realize what it was she got.
