Growing up, we had whole milk. I drank it because my parents told me to, but it was always kind of too thick for my liking. Then I went to overnight camp, and they only served skim milk. Which was like white water, and I despised it. But, again, the adults in charge said to drink it with dinner, so I did. I vowed that my kids wouldn’t ever have to drink milk. Ever.
Of course, I have kids who love milk. A lot. I don’t do the whole milk thing because I think it’s just too many calories- and too many fat calories, but I don’t like skim because, well, it’s still kind of white water… (it’s like decaf coffee, in my book). Sometimes *I* myself want a glass of milk (especially with a cookie, or with comfort foods), but I’ve never really found the happy medium between whole milk and skim.
Last week, I was invited to attend a Google hangout to learn all about a refreshing new milk beverage hitting dairy shelves everywhere called MilkWise. It’s milk, but it’s less sugar, less calories, and more calcium than traditional milk. I can’t wait to do some baking with it (watch for some recipes in coming weeks!). I am a MilkWise blog ambassador and will be sharing several posts about this great new milk beverage in coming months. Opinions are my own.
It’s also got way cooler packaging than regular milk, don’t you agree?
MilkWise currently offers three varieties:
1. Original
2. Vanilla
3. Reduced Sugar Vanilla (this is my new indulgence…it’s a little sweet treat without the guilt!)
MilkWise is a proprietary blend of water, lowfat milk, sugar and other ingredients blended together to optimize taste while delivering lower sugar, fewer calories and more calcium than traditional milk. It’s ok for the family to enjoy, too, as it doesn’t contain artificial sweeteners- and the added calcium is great for growing (and aging) bones.
MilkWise is coming first to New England, I’m happy to say…coming in September to dairy shelves. They will be bringing the “Taste of MilkWise” Tour to Boston to kick off the launch paired with the officiial launch into the New England regional market. The tour truck will offer samples of MilkWise on September 16th alongside one-of-a-kind treats from Boston’s Flour Bakery- and from local bakeries at each of the New England stops! AND!! I’m also excited to announce, and a little jealous, that Monica Potter will be a spokesperson with MilkWise and be appearing at the Boston stop of the tour!
In addition to Boston, the truck will also make stops in the following cities:
Springfield, Massachusetts
Portland, Maine
Providence, Rhode Island
Hartford, Connecticut
Manchester, New Hampshire
Are you a milk drinker? Which flavor of MilkWise do you think you’d want to try first?

Interesting product, I have been using Fairlife brand milk recently. It has more protein and less sugar and I can find it locally. Just another option available…
