I Cruise, I Lose: Weight Loss Program Update
I was provided a free trial program by Jenny Craig that included being compensated with enrollment in the program, consultations, as well as food for the duration of the program. However, the opinions expressed are entirely my own.
Well, we’re 60 days into my Jenny Craig experience. I say we, because it’s truly been a family affair. From having kids at my weigh-ins (I draw the line at them seeing the scale itself), to kids helping to “choose” my meals and add veggies, etc., my family has been a huge support to me for in this journey and I really owe them a lot of credit for the successes I have had thus far.
And of course, my consultant, Donna. She’s been fabulous and so positive, even on days when I was feeling discouraged (like this week, when I was feeling all bloated and PMS-laden)! She always finds a positive, which is what I try to do most of the time as well (but struggle to do when it comes to myself).
I’m holding steady on my enjoyment of the foods. No big changes there. I brought many snacks on the cruise a few weeks ago, and thank goodness for those. Having some hummus and crackers for a snack in the middle of Belize may have seemed a bit odd to some, but it was kind of a sanity saver for me, and kept me on track.
I DID indulge a bit, but with the walking we did on excursions and back and forth to our room when the kids forgot something in one of our rooms, I made up for it. So much so that I came home after a 7-day cruise 1.6 lbs lighter*! Some of the offerings on the ship were served in perfectly portioned sizes, like this Tomato Bisque we enjoyed at the Steakhouse on board the ship…
*Results not typical. Members following the Jenny Craig program, on average, lose 1-2 lbs. per week. I received promotional consideration.
I’m kind of proud of that- I made sure to do lots of water, fruits and veggies first before anything else, and had some of my Multi Grain Hoops cereals with a hard-boiled egg or scrambled eggs each day. I didn’t feel like I was missing out and was able to stay on track, which was really important to me- if I “let loose” for a week, how would I head home and get back on track?
I even had some Kettle Corn and Cheese Curls packed for the Dive in Movie nights, so I was enjoying a yummy snack with everyone else while watching a movie in the middle of the ocean. I just didn’t have the same serving sizes or calorie counts, but I didn’t miss it or feel deprived. Although I have to tell you, I LOVE those Cheese Curls. They are so good!!
I’m SUPER glad I was able to lose on the cruise, especially because this week, my weigh-in brought a .6 gain. I mentioned before I was feeling bloated and PMS-y, and Donna suggested we wait until this coming Monday to do measurements instead. So … stay tuned for those. I was so excited I tweeted them last time we did measurements anyway!
Biggest challenges right now for me are all relating to moving—stress from the sellers, their agent, and just packing up a house and moving to a new one in general…our schedules are all off-kilter so it has been a challenge for me to stay on track, especially when we’ve had to leave for showings at all kinds of hours. I’ve learned to keep 1-2 Anytime Bars in my purse and usually a Hummus & Crackers as well, simply so that if we end up out during mealtime, I can tide myself over until we’re home and I can grab a meal from the freezer. We are “Under Contract” and not doing showings anymore, so at least we’re through that challenge. Now I have to get through back-to-school and the celebrations and events that go along with it!
I am really, truly loving my Jenny Craig experience. I’ve had ups and downs, but what’s important to me is that I FEEL better. My clothes fit better, and I’m more comfortable (and confident) putting on a dress, a bathing suit, and just moving more. I’m moving easier. It’s been such a great kick-start to being healthier and I am actually excited to see what comes in the next few weeks for me! I’m really feeling like I have the keys to success with this program—and I have some others who agree with me about how awesome Jenny Craig is.
For the first time in I don’t know how long, I feel like I’m really teaching myself, along with the Jenny Craig program and Donna’s one-on-one support, how to make healthier choices and think consistently about portion control. I’ve even learned that I can indulge a little and not polish off half a cake!
It’s no wonder US. News & World Reports listed Jenny Craig in the Top 3 (out of almost 40 tested) in their annual list of Best Weight-Loss Diets. It’s also at the top for Easiest Diets to Follow. In fact, I was surprised by some of the diets that Jenny Craig beat out – or how low some more “popular” diets were on the list.
Are you on a weight-loss journey as well? What are your challenges and successes?

Congrats and job well done on the cruise. Usually people tend to go off diets when on vacation but you did very well. Jenny Craig is a diet I have never tried before but have heard good things about it. Thanks for sharing your experiences and congrats on the 1.6 lbs. weight loss during your cruise.

I have heard so much about Jenny Craig but haven’t tried the program yet. I may try it someday though.
