How to make Avengers Inspired Glow in the Dark Bath Bombs
The Avengers are some of my favorite characters. Love them or loving to hate them is so much fun- and so entertaining. Between the Infinity War and Endgame, I was devastated that the stories were ending. I’ve actually never wanted to nor have bought a ticket to see a movie in the theater more than once until Infinity War, and I tell you now I’ve seen both IW and Endgame 2 times each at the theater. I loved them. I also cried, and cried again, although if you know me, I cry at most everything anyway.
Well, a while ago I asked my friend Kelly to help me come up with something for those of us who enjoy to pamper a bit now and then, but also love the Avengers. She created these Thanos themed bath fizzers- although we call them Infinity Stones bath bombs now! Now I can soak in the tub with a good book, or while watching some of my Marvel Universe faves…
Of course, these are GLOW IN THE DARK bath bombs, so if you want to have a littl more fun, turn off the lights! Super fun for the kiddos especially if they haven’t ever seen anything glowing in the tub before.
Infinity Stones Glow in the Dark Bath Bomb Recipe
Supplies:
2 cups baking soda
1 cup citric acid (It’s less expensive to buy in bulk)
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup white kaolin clay (I get mine- also called cosmetic clay- from Amazon)
2 tablespoons Chamomile Epsom salts
3 cup coconut oil
*1 teaspoon polysorbate 80
1 teaspoon vanilla scented oil
1 tablespoon white iridescent cosmetic glitter
1 tablespoons glow in the dark mica powder or powdered paint
Stainless steel bath bomb molds
Mini muffin tin (optional)
Spray bottle filled with rubbing alcohol
1 large mixing bowl
6 small bowls
Instructions:
Steps 1-5: In a large mixing bowl, add the baking soda, citric acid, kaolin clay and Epsom salts. Whisk dry ingredients together.
Steps 6-8: Add the coconut oil. This binds all the ingredients together, so you bath bombs don’t crumble when you touch them! Add polysorbate 80, which helps disperse the colorant and helps it not stick to the tub. [*The polysorbate 80 is mixed in with the coconut oil in the supplies picture.]
Step 9: Mix in scented oil.
Steps 10-11: Mix in cosmetic glitter. You may need to use your hands to break down any lumps and make sure everything is mixed in.
The mixture is perfect when it holds together when you press it into your hands and feels like wet sand. Separate mixture into 6 small bowls.
Step 12: Add 1 tablespoon of each mica powder into each small bowl. Mix in thoroughly. If you want a darker color, add in an additional tablespoon of color.
Steps 13-14: Fill both sides of the mold with the mixture, press molds together and grind to remove excess mixture. Gently tap each side of the mold to release the bombs.
Step 15: To avoid the bombs breaking during the drying phase, I put them in a mini muffin tin. They fit perfectly! Allow to dry a minimum of 24 hours.
If your climate is wet or cold, allow an additional 24 hours. My rule of thumb is that when it is hard to the touch, they are ready for the tub! Store your glow in the dark bath bombs in an airtight container until ready for use. These are great party favors or just to make for yourself!
