Last week, I had the best girls’ night with 700 strangers I’ve had in my life. The next morning, I got to interview the stars of A Bad Moms Christmas. Was it a dream? You’d think so, but there I was. I have photo evidence and flyer miles to prove it.

SEE? It happened.
So first. Monday night we got to see the first full length screening of A Bad Moms Christmas in Chicago at the Music Box Theater. Remember, the Bad Moms live in the Chicago area, so of course the screening was there, in the city. I watched along with 700 of my closest stranger friends. Well, maybe like 692 of them, I’ve met several of the bloggers before that were also on the trip with me.
Anyway, do you know what happens when you have a theater packed with moms having a girls’ night and show a movie like this that HIGHLIGHTS all of what moms do? It’s insane. It’s busy and fun and loud with chatter and laughter. Now, add some fun A Bad Moms Christmas wine glasses (acrylic), wine for those in attendance, and you’ve basically got a fun party going.
Then the moms and their moms walked on stage. Holy moly. Photo evidence a la Kristen Bell’s Instagram account. I’m on the right side about 7 rows back from the front- I doubt you can find me in the dark but I WAS THERE! It was epic.
So, the new movie from our Bad Moms friends is AMAZING. I have not laughed so hard for so long in gosh, decades? I’m serious. There’s just so much funny. It’s funny because of the amazing writing of the script, but also because of the actors delivering the lines…and also because the situations are so very relatable.
Especially with the holidays coming up quickly and so many of us striving to have the ‘perfect’ celebrations and memories created…almost anyone can relate to the story lines in this movie. As a mom, as a grandmother, or even as a former kid.
This movie hits home for so many of us. The shopping, the wrapping, the cooking, the parties, the planning, the desire to create magical perfect greeting card moments every step of the way. I think that’s why, especially the way moms especially put pressure on themselves (ourselves) to have perfect holidays…A Bad Moms Christmas just GETS IT. They see us all working so hard to create these magical perfect memories and they see us forgetting that we all have a little Bad Mom inside and they show us in the funniest way possible that it’s OK to not be perfect!
SO. The movie, in short? HILARIOUS. Prepare yourself to laugh, and laugh again. But know that there are a few minutes where you may find yourself with some tears and some sadness, so pack a pantiliner if you are known to laugh and leak, and a tissue or two if you’re known to cry and get emotionally invested in movies. You’ll find that Santa Suits, Lady Foot Locker, Christmas caroling and classic holiday ballet performances may forever be changed in your mind as you will likely giggle or at least smirk when you think of them or hear them discussed for the rest of time.
That’s what A Bad Moms Christmas (and the Bad Moms film) are about. Moms getting a break, not just the break from the family, but a break from the societal pressures and the pressures we put on ourselves to have/be/do/strive for perfect. I think that’s why this movie is going to take off- like the first one- because it’s relatable. We see ourselves in so many of these situations! The work out of the house mom, the stay home mom, the single mom…we’re all struggling and working to do the best for our families- and we ALL need a break. Feeling guilty for needing, wanting and taking a break is normal- and it’s ok to feel that along with having fun being out!
I’m not telling you more about it. It’s funny, go see it, and then go see it again. Drag your reluctant friends out. It’s hilarious and funny and inappropriate and FUN. Thank me later. And then read my reflections on the interviews with the cast of A Bad Moms Christmas.
