When I was a kid, my mom was very much about how we looked. We were not allowed out of the house unless we were clean and pressed and looked like the Cleaver family! Let me tell you, there was a kid inside me that was dying to get out and get dirty! If my siblings and I did get dirty, we were hauled in the house, had our clothes changed and were placed in a safe place where dirt was a distant thought. Me? I embrace the dirty. Dirty means you probably had fun. Unless it’s finger painting, my son has never enjoyed that a single moment of his life.
You can probably guess my kids are {usually}the complete opposite of my siblings and I. I actually love to see my kids get down and dirty when they play. Kids should be kids, and part of that is rolling around in the dirt or mud or grass and just having fun!
Here are 5 fun activities that get kids dirty that they will love!!
- Gardening: We have a garden in the back and the kids are huge helpers! They love to dig, plant and water our fruits and veggies. As an added dirty bonus, we also compost, so that has a good dirt factor as well!
- Mud Bricks: Take an old ice cube tray and let the kids build a mud building!
- Worm Digging: Seriously! What kid doesn’t like to dig in the dirt for worms! Mine do anyway!
- Mud Puddle Jumping: Let the kids get out after a good rain and jump in the mud puddles. Give a prize to the dirtiest kid!
- Mud Box: Instead of a sand box, make a mud box for the kids. This is especially fun for the younger kids.
OK, so now that the kids are absolutely filthy, now what?! I tell them to strip in the Mud Room (aptly named, right?!) and toss everything in my washer! Maytag laundry has been a top trusted American home and commercial appliance brand for decades. Maytag understands the importance in offering families powerful and dependable washer and dryer units that can stick up to handling the dirt and messes that tackle everyday family life. Maytag is better built because they are designed, engineered and assembled in America and have the power to clean big league stains.
Now, Maytag and MLB are continuing to bring fans new programs that enhance their connection to America’s national pastime by asking the fans to submit their own “Filthy Plays”. Maytag wants you to highlight personal stories on fifthly moments/uniforms from your family during the nationwide contest, “#MyFilthiestPlay”. It would only make sense for Maytag, who is the official washer and dryer of MLB, to participate in a ball playing related contest.
Maytag is calling ball players of all ages and levels to upload photos or videos of their Filthiest Plays of the Week– their sliding, diving or just “filthy plays” using “#MyFilthiestPlay” on Twitter or Instagram. Weekly prizes like a Maytag Top Load Washer and Dryer pair, and the opportunity of a lifetime, a grand prize trip to the World Series.
My son plays ball and I know he would be over the moon to go to the World Series with his Dad! The contest began on August 3rd and will run for 6 weeks and you can read the rules and details here.

All three of my kids have four legs, so filthy play is the ONLY play. LOL. I could certainly go for a new washer and dryer to keep up with the four-legged mayhem.

The mud bricks are absolute genius! My son would build them over and over again. The dirtier a kid the happier they are! I love it when they are dirty, it means they have been outside and playing and not in the house watching TV.
