Oh, what’s that? You haven’t heard of an apple pie lasagna? Well, truthfully, I hadn’t either. The idea popped in my head two weeks ago and I was all “oh my gosh it’s going to be all layers of apple and yum and goo and IT HAS TO HAPPEN this weekend” but then it didn’t… until this past weekend. The inlaws announced they’d be coming up to give the kids birthday gifts and would be staying for dinner…I needed a dessert to serve. You only need THREE ingredients!! I should call it a semi-homemade recipe, I guess. But whatever. You can make it from scratch. If you don’t have the time, this is SO super simple to prep and so super simple to make… the kids had a blast assembling it.
Apple Pie Lasagna
Ingredients
1 can apple pie filling (next time, we will double our pie filling so we can have a higher fruit to crust ratio)
1 jar caramel sauce, warmed so that it pours/drizzles easily
1-2 premade pie crusts at room temperature
Nonstick spray for your pan, plus a 9×13 pan
Directions
Spray the pan with your nonstick spray. Lay your pie crust out and trim to fit the bottom of the pan
Layer 1/2 the can of apple pie filling on top of the crust
Drizzle (we went sparingly, if you love super sweet, by all means, have at it) some caramel sauce
Cut 2nd pie crust into strips to fit across your pan (layer it like a regular lasagna)
Repeat the pie filling
Add pie crust strips to finish off the lasagna. We did layer #2 horizontally across the pan and this one vertically)
Drizzle caramel sauce all over the top layer
Bake at 350 for 35 minutes
Serve warm, maybe even with some ice cream.
I think next time, we’ll do an apple-pear pie lasagne. There are SO many options to make- and so many canned fruits in our cantry!
Canned foods make homemade easy!
Canned foods mean less prep and year-round availability, making healthy, homemade meals a reality, more often.
A well-stocked pantry – your “Cantry ” – helps you get through the week with creative meals you can feel good about serving your family and friends.
Cans help waste less food, saving us time and money, and reducing our impact on the environment.
Americans throw away approximately 15 percent to 20 percent of the fresh fruits and vegetables they purchase every year.
Canned food portion sizes are just right for both individuals and families, and most recipes are designed around these sizes.
Metal cans are endlessly recyclable and, in fact, are the most recycled containers in America today, keeping metal out of landfills and saving significant energy.
