Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers
We’re making our basement into a more welcoming fun room of the house. We’ve had an air hockey table the neighbors gave to us, a homemade ping pong table, and we have had a tv down there for a while. We’ve been trying to make it into a more deliberate, welcoming space instead of a mishmash of whatever fits down there, and while some of us in the house like to refer to it as a “man cave”, some of us just don’t see it that way. I’ll let you all decide which Martins think it’s a man cave and which of us don’t agree…
Anyway, we did have a television in the basement, and a smart one at that. When the opportunity popped up from our pals at Best Buy to check out Polk Audio’s compact bookshelf speakers, we figured this was a good time to start making some changes down there. Some sheetrock, a coat of paint and many hours later, we had a wall up over the cement foundation, and began the process of creating an entertainment space in our basement.
You’ll notice that we didn’t paint the whole wall- we haven’t finished taping and sanding so we finished this one for photos. I was pretty happy we had paint left from a project and didn’t have to buy any new!!
Don’t mind the flooring. We don’t know what we want to do so we are going to leave the “bumpy floor” in place, paint spatters and all, until we make a decision. Does anyone recognize the couch and ottoman? It’s our living room furniture from our old house!
Setup
Before you start the setup process, you want to make sure you have speaker wire. We already had this 16 gauge speaker wire, so that’s what we used. There are several varieties your local Best Buy will have that you can pick up or order with your new speakers!! You’ll be annoyed with yourself if you get home or open your package and can’t set things up without the wire.
The bookshelf speakers are pretty nice looking, don’t you think?
Here’s a fun tip: you’re going to need a receiver with these speakers. Best Buy sent us a Denon AVR receiver to go with the speakers, which is the same kind we have upstairs – just pre-smart receiver era. There is a microphone and stand (or similar, depending on what receiver you have purchased) with your speaker in the box and packaging, so GO THROUGH IT CAREFULLY or you’re likely to miss and or toss out parts of that microphone and accessories you’ll need to get the speakers calibrated. (Don’t stress about this, the app and instructions walk you through the calibration).
These would make a really nice gift for a whole family for movie and music enjoyment! (My son and husband also would like to emphasize that Battleship sounds way cooler on XBOX with these speakers too).
