Every so often, films come along that touch my heart. I’ve found that it’s often a film with an amazing child actor in it, and I’m not quite certain why that is. I haven’t even seen The Odd Life of Timothy Green (yet) and I know that I’m going to fall in love with it, and I’ve already fallen for CJ Adams, having spent time watching clips of the movie and having chatted with him on the phone last week.
The story of The Odd Life of Timothy Green is so heartwarming, so very endearing.
Academy Award®–nominated director/writer Peter Hedges (“Dan in Real Life,” What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?”) brings enchantment to the screen with “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” an inspiring, magical story about a happily married couple, Cindy and Jim Green (Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton), who can’t wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child would be like. When young Timothy (CJ Adams) shows up on their doorstep one stormy night, Cindy and Jim—and their small town of Stanleyville—learn that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts.
When young Timothy suddenly comes into the lives of Cindy and Jim Green, they learn that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts.
CJ Adams plays Timothy Green in the film. When asked what his favorite part of playing this character, his response was:
Probably my favorite part of playing the character of Timothy Green was just being such a sweet boy. I just liked to play someone who was different and unique. That’s what I loved about being Timothy.
CJ said he can relate to Timothy Green’s experiences- me and Timothy are very truthful. Like, if I played, like, I wouldn’t lie about anything, but also probably the best thing is that I treat, Timothy treats anyone the same no matter how they act. That’s what I do.
His favorite quality that Timothy’s parents had wished for? Having a good heart because it’s most important is treating people the way that you want them to treat you, and that’s what I thought was probably the most important.
What can grownups take away from this movie? What I think grownups can learn from Timothy Green is that you should always take care of your kids and always have your, have their back rather than always, like, on their case, you know?
Hardest part of filming a movie? Probably the hardest part for me was having to finish school and that at the same time because, like, you had to keep going back and forth and rushing to get home to the schoolroom and rushing to get back. And that was probably the biggest struggle between my time of filming.
Did you study any particular plant? I kinda just went to various, like, I went to all plants, and when I did that, I kinda just, this is what I always told people. I said in order to do it like, there was one scene where I was teaching Joni, and this is what I told her. I told her to think tree. Like, she spread her arms out like a tree, and we called her the tree with branches.
Just like Timothy, CJ’s sport is soccer! Soccer is, like, my main sport. If I had to play any sport to play for the rest of my life, it would be soccer, because I love soccer.
How did you get into acting? Did you always want to act? Well, I never really always wanted to act. It kinda just came suddenly because there was this free for all trial for Dan in Real Life, and I was kinda like, well, why not try out, you know, just for fun. And I got the part as, you know, Elliot Burns. So, and the head director of that movie was trying another movie, and I tried out for that, and I got the part. So now I’m trying to do more movies now. I’m in the business.
What do you want kids to learn from the film? I want kids to learn that this is probably what I, this I didn’t, I didn’t, I’d better not do, but I want kids to learn that no matter how the person, who the person is, and, or how they act, like a bully or anything, I want you to treat them the exact same an- and then they treat you that way.
