Earning Rewards From Gyms In Pokemon Go Is Easier Than You Think!
In the Pokémon Go app, the shop allows players to spend Pokecoins on Pokeballs, Incense, Lure Modules, Lucky Eggs, and some storage expansion options. To get Pokecoins, one would normally have to spend real US Dollars in exchange for their value in Pokecoins. Fortunately, there is another way: Gym Battles.
Earn A Defender Bonus
In the anime, defeating a gym would earn the trainer a gym badge as proof of the victory to be used later at Victory Road on the way to becoming the very best like no one ever was. In the app, gyms do not give out badges. Instead, if a player defeats a gym, the gym is emptied and turns white to allow anyone nearby to become the new gym leader. If you own a gym, your team’s color will be shown in the gym and other players will be able to challenge your gym for the ownership of it. Additionally, you can go to the shop and click the little shield icon at the top right of the screen to claim your Pokecoins, called a Defender Bonus. In addition to the coins, the Defender Bonus also gives Stardust, which is a component in Powering up your Pokémon. You can claim a Defender Bonus once every 21 hours for up to ten gyms at a time!
Gain Experience Points
If you are unable to claim ownership of a gym because the gym leader is too difficult to defeat, or because someone else claimed it while you were defeating it, don’t worry! Simply defeating the gym earns you a lot of experience points. Guarding the gym does not grant the owner any experience points, so in that way, you are getting a unique bonus for battling.
Earn Gold Coins
If those coins are more valuable to you than experience points, then bring along some friends from your team to help you! Have one person sit back and watch the gym while the other players take turns attacking. When the first challenger defeats one of the guards, the second can immediately step in and continue the challenge before the gym can replenish itself. If you have a lot of friends helping you, have one of them focus on survival by dodging rather than rapid tap attacking. Dodging is as easy as swiping left or right during battle, and can be used to avoid taking any damage at all! You can attack right after you dodge then dodge again to catch the opponent off guard and whittle down their hit points without taking any risks. This stall tactic also buys time for your friends to revive and jump back in.
Increase Gym Prestige
After the last Pokémon guarding the gym is defeated, have the player who was sitting back enter the gym as soon as it turns white so they can claim the gym before someone else does. Now you can join your friend in guarding the gym and train to earn prestige points. Gym Prestige levels up your gym, which allows more of your friends to help you defend the gym. After collecting your Defender Bonus, you won’t need to worry about conquering any more gyms until the 21 hour cooldown period passes, giving you plenty of time to catch ‘em all without having to worry about the gym.
