This weeks recipe is one that can be pretty much done independently from mom, especially for older children. If you and your kids love the convenience of single serve mac n cheese but maybe not so much the extra preservatives, additives, sodium, and of course the cost then making your own is super easy. Simple measuring and stirring are the only skills they need to master this recipe, the microwave is a good introduction to “cooking” but will still require some supervision of course as mug will be hot. If your kids object you can leave out the spicy brown mustard but it adds so much flavor to this dish!
Easy Mac-n-Cheese Mugs
Ingredients:
⅓ cup white or wheat macaroni noodles
½ cup and 2 Tbsp. water
⅓ cup mild cheddar cheese
1 Tbsp. milk
1/2 tsp. spicy brown mustard
⅛ tsp. salt
⅛ tsp. black pepper
Directions:
Place noodles and water in a microwave safe (glass) mug heat for 6 minutes- remove and stir every every 90 seconds and then returning to the microwave. Whole wheat noodles will take longer and need a bit more water to cook properly.
Stir in milk, mustard, salt, pepper, and cheese- heat an additional 40 seconds.
Stir well to combine.
Allow to cool a bit, then dig in!

I’m going to have to try this. My grandson loves mac n cheese and the Kraft micro bowls are the perfect amount for him but making this will be better for him.
