Whether you love to help the kids to build sandcastles on Myrtle Beach or you want to dine on some of the most amazing food in Charming, Charleston, SC has so many places that you’ll want to visit that it should be on your bucket list. With almost 3000 miles of coastline, South Carolina has no shortage of beach activities. Today you’ll find some of the best deep sea fishing here in the South than anywhere else.
Most of the beachfront is on the barrier islands, and often these can only be accessed by boat. No first time visit is complete without seeing Charleston, the Holy Cities history dating back to the 1700s. Below, we’ve put together a list of five places that you should want to visit in South Carolina. This is a contributed post
- Historic Charleston. You can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the antebellums in historic Charleston, where more than 1400 churches, homes and buildings line the streets. Heading over to historic Charleston City Market gives you somewhere to visit with an overview of the history. You can even take a carriage ride here or join a walking tour that includes a peek into some of the homes. There are some guided tours of historical homes, such as the Aiken-Rhett House and the 1808 Nathaniel Russell House. There are exhibits at the Old Exchange Building and Old Slave Mart Museum that show so much more about its long, complicated history than any other place in America.
- Myrtle Beach. If you’re visiting South Carolina for its beaches, then Myrtle Beach absolutely should be on your list. It’s one of the most pristine beaches that line the coast, and as appealing as the beaches themselves are, the many traditional seaside pleasures are right here. There are music shows and a sky wheel that takes visitors on 10 minute rides above the beach and boardwalk. The boardwalk itself is littered with rides and mini golf, specialty shops and dining, and even Ripley’s Aquarium. There are slides, splash rides and swimming pools at water parks and hotels around the beach as well. Whether you love fishing or not, you should also want to add Apache Pier to your list of places to visit.
- Hilton Head Island. There’s no glamorous stage shows of the Grand Strand in Myrtle Beach here, but it’s one of those low country beach towns that offer you that laid back, smaller crowd that you might have been seeking. There’s so much to do here, from the shopping look to the golf courses and of course the white sandy beaches. Relax and unwind and take off on the flat, well marked bicycle trails. The scenery is to die for.
- Harbour Town. Make sure that you go to the Sea Pines Resort to see the South end of the island. Harbour Town is noted for its mariner and famous lighthouse and you definitely want to make sure that you see those superb water views.
- Daufuskie Island. It’s always worth the day trip because Daufuskie Island is only accessible by boat and passenger ferry. There are only a very few paved roads on this island, so make sure that you rent a golf cart to explore on your own. There is a three mile long beach here that is so much less crowded than the other beaches that it’s definitely worth your time.
