We’ve had babies in our house for a lot of years and know how sensitive their skin can be. From new baby skin to the dry, chapped skin of sweet chubby cheeks in winter, and from scraped knees of learning to walk to the diaper rash that comes for so many unknown reasons, a baby with skin irritation or ouchies is not usually a happy baby. We all want our baby to be happy. As moms we all have go to products for making babies skin (and our own) feel better. For me, it’s Aquaphor.
Tips that Make for a Happy Baby
Lots of Regular Sleep
Making sure that your baby is well rested is so important for having a happy baby. Just like grown ups who are lacking sleep, an overly tired baby is usually a grumpy baby. We’ve found that when it comes to sleep, routine is key for our little ones. Trying to get them down for nap at approximately the same time every day and having a regular bed time and bed time routine means a lot. Their little bodies and internal clocks know to expect the roughly the same thing every day. This means they are ready for sleep instead of ready to fight it. It also means they learn from an early age that we as parents are going to give them consistency.
Let Them Be Kids (or Babies)
Yes, they are little people and not wild animals but they are little and we can’t expect the same from babies or toddlers that we do from grown ups and older children. They need to be silly. They need to be rough sometimes. They need to be loud (remember they haven’t been issued indoor voices yet). They need to express their emotions – all of them even if some are unpleasant. When they are big enough and coordinated enough, they need to run and be wild. These are all ways they learn and ways they become independent and intuitive. These are ways they grow and develop. Sometimes these things just plain make them happy and that’s enough for me.
Play and Interaction
Babies can be boring. Sleep. Eat. Poop. Repeat. As they get older they become more interactive and more fun but even when they are tiny they need you to play and interact with them. I love the light in my baby’s eyes when we play, when we’re on the floor together or sitting together. I love the smiles and giggles that let me know my baby loves this time too. These moments help baby to learn and develop and also help them to feel secure, loved, and happy.
Healthy Eating Routine
What your baby eats and when is so important. If they are eating foods that aren’t appropriate for their little tummies they can be so irritable. Whether it’s food that they are not ready to digest or foods they have sensitivities to, baby’s diet has a lot to do with their mood. Giving them healthy foods at regular times for snacks and meals means they’re making the right kind of energy and they aren’t getting overly hungry. In our house overly hungry = hangry. That hungry anger that make these sweet little babes turn into savage animals that could scare anyone.
Let Them Be Kids (or Babies)
Yes, you read that right. It’s worth repeating. They are going have emotional melt downs. They are going to make your feel like your ear drums might burst. They are going to make you both laugh until you might pee your pants and sometimes, they are going to make you cry. They are also going to get bumps, bruises, cuts and scrapes. You have to let them live, learn, and grow.
For cuts and scrapes. For simple skin woes. For beauty dilemmas. From the mom on-the-go who carries it in her bag, to the dermatologist who recommends it to his patients, so many people have trusted Aquaphor for over 90 years for one simple reason: it’s the multipurpose product for so many of your skin-related needs.
Now Aquaphor has your baby’s bottom covered too with a new Baby Diaper Rash Cream? Aquaphor is on a mission to show that a happy baby begins with a rash-free bottom. Their newest product is a must-have for keeping baby’s sensitive little bottom free from diaper rash and the discomfort that comes with it. Unlike a lot of other diaper rash creams, Aquaphor’s new Baby Diaper Rash Cream is easy to spread on and wipe off. I’ve tried products in the past that aren’t this way. The cream is proven to relieve diaper rash within six hours which again has not been my experience with other products. Aquaphor is also preservative free and pediatrician recommended.
Check out one of my FAVORITE Aquaphor loving (and wearing) babies sporting a cute little onesie I customized for him!! Isn’t he just a sweetpea? Plus look at his legs!
Do you have a tip to share that makes your baby happy?
