We’ve been dealing with a lot of food allergies and sensitivities in our family and we’re really working to remove processed foods from our day to day snacks and meals. Healthy meals with fresh ingredients are fairly easy for us but snacks are a little more difficult. Sometimes you just want a snack that is something different than fresh veggies or fruit. I’ve been experimenting for a long time with making my own fruit roll ups and finally have a great recipe and method!
Homemade Healthy Fruit Roll Ups
Ingredients:
- 2 Medium Apples
- 2 Cups Fresh Strawberries
- 2 Tbsp Raw Honey
- 1 Large Lemon
- Parchment Paper – trust me when I say do NOT use wax paper instead (it melts into your fruit)
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 170 degrees.
Wash the apples and strawberries. Cut the hulls from the berries and cut them in half. Remove the cores from the apples and dice them.
Place the fruit in a high powered blender or processor.
Add 2 tbsp of raw honey, the juice from 1/2 of a large lemon and a bit of lemon zest.
Blend on high until the mixture is smooth.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and pour the fruit mixture onto the paper. This should be a fairly thin layer and as even as possible.
Place the pan in your preheated oven for 5 hours. I’ve tried less but 5 hours seems to be the perfect length of time.
Remove the pan from the oven after 5 hours and let the sheet of fruit cool.
Once the fruit is cool use kitchen sheers to cut the fruit into 2″ strips.
Roll the fruit strips up and secure with a tie or piece of tape. I used a fine jute cord since I am serving them for a little get together and wanted them to be extra cute!

Pam I stored them in the refrigerator and they kept great for the few days they lasted! They are so yummy that they did not last long enough in our house to find out when they would go bad. I would definitely keep the in the refrigerator though rather than at room temp.

This sounds incredible! How well or long do these keep and how do you store the fruit roll-ups?

This recipe sounds great! I made some fruit roll ups in the past and didn’t get the memo not to use wax paper…. Needless to say they all ended up in the trash 🙁

What cute bundles of fruit roll ups. I used to make my own homemade with the fruit I used out in the garden, and it tastes so much better than the stores. Your recipe looks so easy and I want to make it for my son. He would love it!

This is awesome! I have a dehydrator and don’t use it b/c you can’t put much in at one time, and it uses 1000 watts, and would take about 8 hours to do a small batch – this is something I’d love to try!
