This honey dijon turkey burger is a delightful twist on the traditional hamburger- turkey patty topped with bacon, cheese and honey mustard dressing atop a pretzel bun! There’s a video of this recipe down by the recipe card, so give it a watch! These burgers are something I came up with when feeling stuck in the dinner rut one night a few weeks ago, and the whole family has been asking for them again. It’s a rare thing for my whole family to love a dinner.
If you’re looking for a great salad to go with burgers, this bean salad is a popular one too! If you’re looking to do a variety of salad flavors, an ambrosia salad is a good alternative, for instance.
Honey Dijon Turkey Burgers
Ingredients
6 slices American or Cheddar Cheese
6 Pretzel Buns
6 Turkey Burger Patties or Ground Chicken Patties (You can make them yourself, but quite frankly, that doesn’t often turn out very well for me, and buying them already shaped saves time!)
6-12 slices bacon, cooked (1 piece on each burger, or if you are bacon
6 slices tomato
lettuce
salt & pepper
Directions
Pan fry your burger patties. You can also grill them.
While your burgers are cooking, make your bacon. I usually do 1-2 slices per burger.
My favorite way to cook bacon is how my mom used to cook it- in a skillet. We sometimes bake ours in a jelly roll pan for 20 minutes at 375 because it’s always a nice crispy bacon when it’s done and you can cook a lot at once. Your preferred way to prepare bacon is the best way!
If the pretzel buns where you live are like they are here, you’ll need to slice them yourself. Seems silly but I say this because I consistently forget and find myself surprised that they aren’t precut every single time we have them.
Once burgers are cooked, I put one slice cheese and then the burger patty on top of the bottom half of the bun.
Layer the honey mustard, tomato, lettuce and cheese and then finish with the top half of your pretzel bun.
Serve immediately with a salad and enjoy! Now that I’m posting this recipe again, I need to make it soon, my whole family devours these!
ADDITIONAL OPTIONAL STEP: Cover with foil so the bun tops don’t burn and bake in a 375 oven for 5-7 minutes to melt the cheese and warm the bun.
