I hate dieting.
I like FOOD.
I do like salads, but I like my salads filled with stuff like…you know- FOOD. Walnuts, a little crumbled cheese, some egg, grilled chicken, dressing…plus lots of veggies.
I can’t do the “I’ll just have a salad” thing and eat a simple tiny salad with a few bits of veggies. I’d get real cranky, fast, and someone might lose an arm. I’m not in the school of thought camp that thinks starvation=dieting. It’s not real, and it won’t work. Plus, I kind of like my family, and hungry Brett=crabby Brett, and they won’t want me around if I’m THAT crabby.
I have to find a “diet” that works for me. One that involves chocolate and a magic something to keep me from emotional junk food eating.
I’m ready and waiting for you to share the MAGICAL DIET ANSWER!! GO!! (Please?)

BTW. how many of you know that once you reach 60 your life expectancy is greater if you are 10 to 20 percent overweight. the reason is if you get sick you have a reserve. this does not apply if you have a weight related medical condition. honestly, i’m overweight. deal with it. my blood pressure is 110 over 70. my fasting blood sugar is 81. my cholesterol is 157 and my triglycerides are 133. i’m well over 50. health is more important than what a shallow society thinks of you.

have you ever heard of bmr (basil metabolic rate). first figure your rate. this your goal weight divided by 2.2 to get your weight in kilograms times 24 hours to the day. example 120 divided by 2.2 =54.55 x 24=1309 add 10 % for an active lifestyle subtract for inactive. by consuming the number of calories to sustain your goal weight the simple act of carrying around the extra weight will cause you to gradually lose the extra weight ( very gradually). there are two reasons this is the only plan that actually works and keeps the weight are 1. you do not experience the metabolic slowdown associated with dieting and 2. you don’t have to change your eating habits to maintain. it’s built in.

so far my best “diet” was a week of swine flu followed by a week of pneumonia. The weight just dropped off like magic while I snacked on mcdonalds parfaits, smoothies and more drinks.
Although I don’t really reccomend this diet.

I’m not into dieting either. The best way to lose weight is to consume a healthy diet, filled with fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean proteins and expend more calories (exercise) than you’re consuming

I lost 40 pounds with Weight Watchers. You eat real food. There’s no secret. You watch your portion size and burn off more calories than you eat.

I wish there was a magical answer too!

I like salads too but agree, I need stuff in them or I get hunger 30 minutes later. I think the magical answer is different for everyone and you just have to find what works – which is easier said than done I know. Good luck!

Amen!! I have determined that I like food far too much to truly “diet.” It’s a sad thing for me, but oh BOY do I love good food! I love a salad, too, but just like you I prefer cheese and nuts and meat on top!

I’ve been waiting for a magical answer all my life! I have to say, I’m surprised that the infographic has only 45% of women dieting- it seems like it’s way more than that, doesn’t it?

I don’t think there is a magical answer ;-( I think really it just comes down to portion control and cutting down on fats.
