I have been dying to try out an amber teething necklace for my new little one, and for my toddler who is getting his 2 year molars. I have heard how wonderful they are, and I just love the idea of using a natural product to help soothe tooth pain instead of medication. I ran across Inspired by Finn and just loved the look and variety of choices available on their site. They use Baltic Amber, and have both polished and semi-polished varieties.
How does it work?
The beads are made of Baltic Amber, which contains succinic acid. When the necklace is worn against the skin and when warmed, trace amounts of healing oils are released from the amber (succinic acid). Succinic acid helps boost the immune system and provides pain relief, among other health benefits. Baltic Amber has some of the highest concentrations of Succinic Acid found in nature. In addition, the lightest colors possess the greatest amount of acid (their Milk and Butter color is one of the best).
Inspired By Finn suggests that for greatest results, the necklace should be worn next to the skin at all times (except while bathing or sleeping). The amber should not be chewed on, as it is soft and can be broken. The necklace can be cleaned with lukewarm water and a soft cloth. Avoid cleansers, as they can leave a residue on the amber.
It was really hard to decide which product to try. I went with Polished Honey Round in a size 13 to 14 inches. I was immediately struck by the beautiful color of the amber. The online pictures do not do justice to the quality and pure color of the amber. The beads were very securely attached and the screw on clasp is great for little ones. I also like the 13 to 14 inch size, as it can be worn into the toddler years.
So, what are my final thoughts?
I absolutely love the look of the jewelry. Totally cute and boho on my little guy! He likes to wear it as an everyday accessory. He did seem to get some relief from tooth pain while wearing it, but I think the true test will be when my new little one starts teething. I have a feeling that it will be more effective for those times when baby is really uncomfortable and drooling all over the place. I think it is totally worth trying, and cute to boot!
