We love games in our house. Card games, strategy games, cooperative games, dice games, you name it, we love game night. Since quarantine began, we’ve kind of shifted when the weather allows and done many hours of game time OUTside of the house, instead of in. Today I’m sharing with you some of our favorite games– new and classics- because maybe you’re looking for some new ideas for things to do. These games are old fashioned fun and will get everyone off their devices…unless maybe they want to put a quick shot on their Instagram or video on Snapchat!
One of our favorite indoor games for many years has been Nok Hockey. The company that makes Nok Hockey, Carrom, has a whole slew of other great games for both indoor and outdoor use, are made in America, and are built to last through endless hours of play. The three new favorites in the Martin house include shuffleboard (this is not the shuffleboard you find in retirement communities across Florida), a bowling game and a wooden version of Skee-ball you can play at home!!! Some samples received in exchange for inclusion in this post, opinions are all of our own.
Favorite Outdoor Games to Play with Family
Shuffleboard–
This is a tabletop version, perfect for camping, cookouts, poolside lounging. Lots of fun on any flat surface. Games like this work well for parties too.
Bowl-a-Mania
Another tabletop version of a classic game, friends and family of all ages will enjoy ten pin bowling- without the stinky rental shoes!
Portable Skeeball!
Hi-Bol Traveling Bowling is an at home skee-ball to play! I have no idea why Skee-ball is so addictive and the lone game I’m drawn to at anything remotely arcade like, but it’s fun and this version folds up and is meant to be portable so you can take it camping or just set it up outside for some family fun one evening.
For the non tabletop game lovers, there’s tons of options for you!
Classic Yard Games
Bocce and Croquet are always fun for gatherings, but in recent years, many more games have come to be well known around the world like a new to us favorite, Kubb. My husband and the kids actually made me a Kubb set, and we’ve spent many hours playing outside this spring. Now that we know if it, we see and hear mention of it all the time. Does that happen to anyone else?
**Pics to come, as I finish this post it’s starting to storm and I can’t get set up to do pics.
My set is absolutely a one of a kind. Not because I’m super special, but because the wood tote used to store the game is part of the kitchen cabinetry from our old house, and the handle doubles as a mallet to pound stakes in, painted to look like Thor’s hammer. We are nothing if not consistently a little weird around here!
Go big or go home
Giant versions of games like Inflatable bowling, giant Jenga, Giant Connect 4, lawn dominoes are also great game ideas. Some you can make on your own, like the giant Jenga and dominoes…I don’t know anyone that can make a set of inflatable bowling pins but if you can? More power to you!
Make your own yard games
You can also make a diy outdoor Twister board- just grab a few colors of spray paint and follow these directions to paint a Twister mat on the grass.
Get your crafting on and make your own games!
You get get crafty inside and have some games that will go with you like our Shrinky Dinks travel tic tac toe set, or even make a garden tic tac toe game using pavers and painted rocks.
