It is that time of year again when the fall leaves change and spooky is in the air. When in Connecticut, don’t worry, there are plenty of places that are more than a little spooky, and are downright scary.
Scariest Places in Connecticut
Old Windham Inn
Don’t be discouraged when you go to visit the Old Windham Inn and see an apartment building where the old inn used to sit. The ghost of Elizabeth (Betsy) Shaw doesn’t care if there are now granite countertops in her old room, she is still one pissed off ghost. You see, back in 1744, Betsy became pregnant and would never say who the father was. As an unmarried woman, the townspeople were brutal to her, taunting and scorning her. They even spread rumors that the unborn baby’s father was none other than Betsy’s own father. Right after the child was born it vanished and was found dead on a nearby cliff. Betsy’s father turned her in and she was found guilty by an all-male jury and hanged for the death of her baby. Her ghost has been seen quite often walking along the road to the Inn and all over the property.

Norwich State Hospital for the Insane
This insane asylum was built back in 1904, where an old Native American village once was. This area has been haunted with ghosts, mists and orbs, and downright eerie feelings. There have been quite a few deaths reported including a patient who hanged himself in 1914 and then a hot water heater exploded in 1919, killing two employees. Not to mention a nurse who committed suicide and another employee was killed when crossing the street. The patients there suffered through starvation, beatings, being confined in their cells for prolonged time, and countless other forms of abuse. The hospital closed down in 1996 and is a downright scary place to visit.

New London Ledge Light
This lighthouse was built in 1909 and was the home of lightkeeper Ernie. He now haunts the lighthouse by stripping the sheets off the beds, turning the TV and lights on and off, and making strange noises at night. Ernie committed suicide by slicing his throat and jumping off the lighthouse when he found out his wife was having an affair.
