Teaching Your Daughter How to Be Kind to Others
Being kind to others is not something everyone is born with. However, as a mom to a little girl, I want to teach my daughter to be kind. Sometimes, though, this isn’t as easy as it sounds. I wanted to share some things that we do in our home to teach kindness to others (to make it easy).
Speak to your daughter in kindness.
One of the best tools for teaching our daughters how to be kind to others is to speak to them with kindness. It’s amazing how much our daughters learn from us and it starts with how we treat them. Of course no mom is perfect, but we need to do our best!
Give opportunities to be kind.
I think a way to teach your daughter how to be kind to others is to give them the opportunity. Helping someone who needs it is an ideal way to teach kindness to your daughter. Hopefully, when you are not looking, she will still help someone, just as you taught her. You may remember when we sent sweet little Abby her very own American Girl doll a few years ago…
Be consistent with your daughter.
There may be times when your daughter hasn’t been kind to someone else. You can use this as a learning opportunity for her. Being consistent with her is a great way to teach her how to be kind to others. She will eventually get that this “kindness” thing is for life and you mean it.
Let your daughter come up with some ideas to be kind.
If you were to listen to your daughter, she probably has some great ideas on how to be kind to others. You should take her tips to heart and let her try them out. Maybe she has an idea to bring another family dinner or mail a kindness card to someone else. If she needs ideas, you can help her, but it’s always fun to hear our daughters brainstorm.
Introduce your daughter to WellieWishers™ from American Girl.
A big part of being a parent is being a role model to our children. Something we have done around here is tried to influence our daughter with things that will help her to be a better person and help her to show others kindness. The WellieWishers were developed for girls who have fun-loving characteristics.
Willa, Kendall, Ashlyn, Emerson, and Camille are all about learning timeless life lessons on empathy, kindness, and the importance of being a good friend. I love bringing real life lessons to life for my daughter and I can do that with the help of the WellieWishers. These dolls are aimed at girls between the ages of 5 to 7. The WellieWishers’ adventures are exciting and for the first time they are coming to life with American Girl’s first-ever animated series.
I encourage you to check out the The WellieWishers collection! It includes beautifully illustrated early chapter books, five 14½-inch character dolls, whimsical garden-themed accessories, and Dress Like Your Doll™ clothing, plus a free app that allows girls to explore the WellieWishers’ world.
The WellieWishers collection is available through the American Girl catalogue; at americangirl.com, and American Girl retail locations nationwide. The WellieWishers early chapter books are available wherever books are sold.

I have always loved the American Girl Dolls. The things being taught by the different dolls is amazing.
