The Middle: Season Two (When consequences don’t fit the crime)

After Axl leaves his dirty smelly socks lying around the house one too many times during season two of The Middle, Mike punished his son by banning him from playing his basketball team’s final game. Given the Heck legacy on the basketball team, do you think it was the best decision?

I get the wanting a consequence that will leave an impression on your child- but I think Mike’s punishment for this “crime” was way overboard.  I think he could have been a bit more creative with his consequence and had a better effect. The consequence didn’t fit the crime!!

I’ve had many instances where my time didn’t fit the crime- but I can’t say I blame my parents.  I’m the youngest of 8 and quite frankly the one who tried (and failed) to get away with the most.  But oh, boy.  I’ve had so many times when I got doled out some crazy consequences for things- some intentional, some unintentional- but too many times, and I say this as a mom myself, never allowed out of things.  My parents gave a punishment, and that was that.  If you argued or fought them on it, you ended up in deeper trouble.  If you were grounded for 9 days, you were grounded for 9 days.  Any back talk or discussion led to a lengthier punishment.  Not fun, but that’s how it was.  Unfortunately for me I like to have the last word.  That, and I wasn’t always the brightest bulb on the light….so I all too frequently had enormous consequences for small infractions.  I also had a few instances that as a mom, I’d go back and talk to my kids later and discuss things, and change the punishment, but my parents didn’t do that.  Live and learn.
