Tips for Embracing the New Season
It is hard to believe that fall is already here. I am enjoying the crisp weather, but there are some things we are doing differently to embrace this new season. Check out these tips for embracing the new fall season and keeping safe, when possible.
Change all of the light bulbs
I cannot tell you how many times this summer, I ignored all of the lights that have gone out. This was mostly because it was light outside from the sun. Now that it’s getting darker, I need to be able to see. We also just moved into a new home, and we’re pretty sure most of the bulbs here are going to be kaput by December. By changing all of the light bulbs, I am keeping our home safe and making sure I can see better. This helps me feel safer- the kids are still getting used to where their rooms are and 2/3 of mine are sleepwalkers. I like well lit halls!
Decorate the house
For some reason, fall seems to be one of the most fun seasons of the year. I can actually decorate for fall and not freeze doing so. I love hanging up all of the fun decorations. Decorating the house for fall is one way to embrace the new fall season.
Check your smart thermostat
Although your thermostat is “smart” you still need to check it and make sure it’s working properly. Your thermostat is the life blood of your house. Make sure it’s functioning properly this fall season.
Home emergency kit
I don’t know about you, but besides decorating my house for fall, another fun thing that I love to do is prep the home emergency kit. It’s so much fun to get everything ready, just in case. The kids also enjoy helping me do this!
Change the batteries
This is a huge one when it comes to embracing fall. It’s super important that all of your batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are changed. As part of the annual Change Your Clock Change Your Batteries™ program, Energizer wants to make sure you are staying as safe as possible. This is honestly one of the best ways you can keep your family save this fall and winter. It is a simple, life-saving habit than can keep you and your family safe in your home. Doing it when the clocks change just makes it easy to remember! *Remember, Daylight Savings Time is November 6, 2016*
Don’t forget, you should have smoke/carbon monoxide detectors at least one per floor at your house! We have 3 stories plus a full basement so we have several- but you cannot be too cautious with this kind of thing, in my opinion. We do Energizer batteries because we trust them to last (and last)!
Do a home safety check
Another way to embrace the fall and winter season that is approaching is to do a home safety check. Your doors and windows should open and lock properly.
Your family should also have a plan when it comes to a fire drill or any other kind of emergency that could happen in your home. Also, make sure you check areas like the security system for dead batteries.
For 29 years, the Energizer® brand has partnered with the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) to help keep families safe through the Change Your Clock Change Your Batteries™ program. Every fall, Energizer® and the IAFC work to remind people of the simple, life-saving habit of changing and testing the batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, along with all of your home safety devices, when setting the clocks back for daylight saving time.
Make sure to follow Energizer® on Facebook to get more tips and information about home and fire safety.
All of these safety components work together to ensure you have an awesome fall and winter. What tips would you add to this list? Embracing fall is truly one of my favorite parts of the year. What about you?

I always forget to change batteries then have to hunt for the chirping detector–well after I am tired of hearing the chirping and everyone in the house has complained :). Thanks for all of these great tips.

We do all these except for changing the light bulbs. Hmm, we’ve never thought of that. Thank you for the tips!

Great ideas! I sometimes forget the little things but making these changes with each new season is a great way to stay on top of it.

These are all great ideas. I just recently changed out all my light bulbs too. I think it’s the perfect season for all these changes.

I also like decorating the house so things change a bit and doesn’t look boring but with my son walking all over, it’s really hard to keep the house neat.

These are great tips! I keep forgetting to replace the battery in my grandfather clock but this reminds me. I need to stop working and go do that before one more person announces that they thought it was 8:00! lol

Great tips!! I think we all forget about the little things like light bulbs and smoke detector batteries with our busy lives. It is a great reminder to check now before it gets to late!
